About Karoline Guerin

Mezzo-soprano Karoline Guerin is recognized across a wide range of repertoire for her lush, sultry tone and captivating stage presence. She is praised not only for her flexibility in both sustained and agile singing, but also for her exceptional musicianship and theatrical intuition.
Ms. Guerin is an active recitalist and concert singer. In the 2024-2025 season, she debuts with Harford Choral Society as the alto soloist for Telemann’s Magnificat in C Major, and returns to the Concerts at St. Joseph series in Cockeysville, MD to present a vocal recital of love songs and duets. Last season, she sang the alto solo Bach’s Cantata BWV 63 with Bach in Baltimore, and selected jazz and pop solos with the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra. In 2022, she offered a selection of sacred works from oratorio and art song in recital in her first appearance with the Concerts at St. Joseph series. Previously, she was a three-time guest recitalist with the Bosetti Concert Series at the Cathedral Basilica in Denver, CO. She has performed the alto solos in Händel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and Mozart’s Requiem Mass, as well as various early Baroque works. She had the honor of placing first in her division in the 2020 World Bach Competition with the Boulder Bach Festival.
Equally at home on the opera stage, Ms. Guerin joins Opera Baltimore in the 2024-2025 season to cover the role of Nancy in Britten’s Albert Herring. Last season, she made her company and role debut with Bel Cantanti Opera as Mercédès in Bizet’s Carmen. She also returned to Opera Baltimore as the Filipievna cover in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, where the previous year she made her role and company debut as Marthe in Gounod’s Faust. In past seasons, she collaborated with Denver’s Bel Canto Legacy in their original staged reduction of Carmen, for which she performed the title role in 2019; she returned to the role in 2021 in a socially-distanced video production of the same. Despite the pandemic, she placed third in Lyra New York’s online International Vocal Competition. In 2019, she was delighted to sing at the Bravo! Vail Music Festival in the chorus of Puccini’s Tosca with the Philadelphia Orchestra, under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. She was slated to return in 2020 as a member of the chorus for Mahler’s Second Symphony with the New York Philharmonic. She enjoyed performing in the Opera Colorado chorus for their productions of Puccini’s La Bohème and Verdi’s Aïda during her time in Colorado as well.
Ms. Guerin gained invaluable experience during her training as an Apprentice Artist with Opera Fort Collins and as a Young Artist with Emerald City Opera (now Opera Steamboat). Highlights include the role of Julia Child from Lee Hoiby’s one-woman show Bon Appétit!, in which she delivered a delectable mixture of musicality, comedy, and cake-baking; Alisa in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor; and Emilia in Verdi’s Otello. She earned her Master of Music degree from Colorado State University under the tutelage of Dr. John Seesholtz; favorite roles from this time include the formidable La Zia Principessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Madame de la Haltière in Massenet’s Cendrillon.
Before her career as a singer, Ms. Guerin was involved in extensive training and performing as a violinist. Since beginning lessons at age 5, she has performed with orchestras locally and internationally. Though her career is now focused on vocal performance, she continues to perform for special occasions and services. In Denver, she was a regular member of Stratus Chamber Orchestra, and taught both voice and violin privately for several years. Additionally, she has over a decade of experience in liturgical music, filling roles as cantor, violinist, section leader, and choir director at various parishes. Outside of the music world, she brings her gifts to the medical field as a Medical Scribe, aiding practitioners with appointments through careful listening and fastidious documentation. She recently relocated from Denver, CO to the Baltimore area, where in her free time she enjoys running and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
